About two weeks ago, I posted about a recent article on Scientific American on children's need for play. A second article published in the New York Times recently reported another study in the journal Pediatrics came to a similar conclusion. According to "The Three R's? A Fourth Is Crucial, Too: Recess," "[n]ew research suggests that play and down time may be as important to a child's academic experience as reading, science and math, and that regular recess, fitness or nature time can influence behavior concentration, and even grades."
I can't help but wonder how we ever concluded children didn't need play and down time to be healthy and, among other things, to learn at their best?
