Spring approaches rapidly, and my thoughts turn to . . . next year's curriculum.
Jerry and I have decided to forgo the boxed curriculum next year and return to my piecemeal curriculum. Although Moving Beyond the Page has some good points, it's not a good fit for our family. I feel a bit straight jacketed by it. I am also teaching more than one child and teaching the same material (at different levels) to both Kipp and Landry has its attractions. I have other minor concerns. The spelling and grammar are very weak. We need to supplement the science. While the majority of the activities are well designed, a portion are not. Finally, it is expensive, especially when we must buy a separate math curriculum and supplements.
Ultimately, I am excited tonight. I think our homeschooling has lost something valuable this year. I am having a difficult time putting words to it. I think that in plodding through a seemingly endless stack of unit studies, we've lost the spark or excitement of learning.
Maybe I cannot improve the situation, but I am intrigued by the challenge.
