I love watching the boys play, as it provides a window in their minds.
Today, the boys decided to dig a hole. Why? I have no idea. However, they got a foot or two down and discovered granite.
What did this mean to them? A chance to test and examine. First, they washed their specimens in varying degrees of heated water to see what would dissolve. Next, they set up their microscope and began examining their crystals. That wasn't enough, so Landry got a laptop running next to the microscope and opened wikipedia and images.google.com for images of different types of granite. I overheard them discussing the fact that their specimens were igneous and probably formed under a lot of pressure.
Sometimes, I just sit back and wonder at how lucky I am to have such interesting people in my world.
